Louis McGuffie VC (15 March 1893 – 4 October 1918) was a Wigtown recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
On Friday 28th September 2018 – to mark the Centenary of the award of the VC – a commemorative paving stone was unveiled and wreaths laid at Wigtown County Buildings. The Louis McGuffie VC Memorial Gardens archway were also unveiled.
As well as the commemorative stone and archway, you can view details of his gallantry in the County Buildings and he is also remembered alongside the other fallen service personnel of Wigtown on the War Memorial near the Town Kirk.
